The Sporades, in the Aegean Sea, are composed of eleven major islands, of which only four are inhabited: Skíathos, Skópelos, Alónnisos and Esciro.
Beautiful white sand beaches, sparsely populated islands, excellent unspoiled anchorages, Mediterranean pine forests, ancient ruins, churches and castles and abundant marine life; the Sporades offer the complete package for an excellent navigation on islands that are less frequented but that never cease to amaze those who navigate its turquoise waters and its green coast.
As a curiosity, this is where Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan starred in the famous movie Mamma Mia!
During your sailing holiday in the Sporades, you can visit:
- Marine Park, a national reserve shelter of monk seals and a place for protecting endangered species such as the caretta tortoise (better known as boba).
- Skopelos island is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece; you cannot miss its fine sand beaches and transparent waters as well as its charming capital town.
- In the island of Alonissos you can visit the picturesque village of Chora, located on top of a hill from where you can enjoy a wonderful view to the Aegean Sea.
- The island of Kyra Panagia is ideal for anchoring and spending a night. There is a small monastery on this island that is worth visiting.

The conditions of navigation are usually very favorable in this area, although they can be affected by the famous wind Meltemi that blows from the northeast.
From time to time in July and August the wind blows stronger from a north-west direction with a force 4-6 and lasts until the end of September. This sailing area is highly recommended for those with more sailing experience.
